As a recent university graduate of creative advertising and graphic design, I have been keeping myself aware of how to adjust my creative processes in the real world.
As a graphic designer, I consider myself to be an artist, a communicator, an organizer, a thinker, a writer and a perfectionist. The ability to choose from a variety of media, formats, and a continuous flow of concepts gives me the freedom to develop the best way to convey information or a certain idea. While keeping in mind that since graphic design is all about visual communication, the exchange with the receiver is critical and should always be considered.
Which brings me to adapting to being an advertiser, where the final product and the relationship that is sought after with the end user is so vital that visual communication is of such high significance. Advertising has become more than just 'what you see is what you get', it's about loyalty and help- ing to develop a steady relationship with a brand and it's consumers.
Which is why as part of a creative advertising team I want to get into people's heads, and not just approach the world of marketing in a confrontational manner and so I find that both verbal and visual elements are both of vital importance. My intention in doing so would be to engage people as active receivers rather than passive viewers.
The world of art and design today does in fact, amaze me. The depths and details or even lack thereof, the color, value, media; no matter what has been created, it is all derived from a thought. It's a constant evolution of exploration. As a designer I acknowledge the fact that we are students, constantly learning, acquiring knowledge which for us in the world of visual communication is to constantly be developing techniques and pushing our way through boundaries and stereotypical notions. Design to me is more than just visual communication; it is establishing a connection with the world. Whether it is a painting or a poster, we possess a duty to inform the rest of the world of it's existence, its vigor and its endurance.
